The Affordable Care Act Open enrollment ends on January 31, 2017. Many changes are underway for the Affordable Care Act including repealing and replacing it. Until the new administration takes such action those NOT ENROLLING in health insurance OR enrolling in a plan that does not meet the requirements of the law may be accessed a penalty unless they obtain an exemption which can be applied for at Healthcare.gov. For tax year 2016 the penalty will rise to 2.5% of your total household adjusted gross income, or $695 per adult and $347.50 per child to a maximum of $2,085. For tax year 2017 and beyond the percentage option will remain at 2.5% but the flat wee will be adjusted for inflation.
